Lenci Doll

In her autobiography, the artist wrote about this work: "'Lenci' was of a very rare boy Lenci Doll--a very early one actually, actually made by Mme. Lenci herself--she rarely made boys (most dolls of course are girls), but it was in memory of a little son who had died she first began to make her dolls and all their faces are said to have been likenesses of his."
