Freedom

"Then my next subject was "Freedom," wrote the artist in her autobiography. "One I'd had in mind for over thirty years, ever since I acquired the little green paroquet and the cast iron cats I used in it. What triggered my doing it when I did was my finally finding just the cage I wanted for my bird to be emerging from, but what I marvel at was that in all those thirty years I never found out that Goya had already painted the same subject two hundred years ago--I only realized later that it was a detail of his little boy in red in the Metropolitan."
