Snow on the Bay, West Falmouth, Massachusetts

Hillary Osborn's paintings are an extension of her; straightforward and unpretentious, filled with quiet thoughtfulness, beauty and tranquility. Osborn first became interested in painting as a young girl on visits to her great uncle, the painter Lowrie Warene's cabin studio in Canada. He was involved with Canada's Group of Seven and his work inspired her to pursue a life of art. Her formal arts training include a BFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an MFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Osborn is a member of Boston's renowned Copley Society and in 1999 she was Cape Cod Life Magazine's Emerging Artist of the Year.

The light, air and texture in Hillary Osborn's painting of her native Buzzard's Bay evoke the idyllic landscapes harbored in our dreams and memories. The rich color and texture of her compositions resonate in the same way that Fairfield Porter's best scenes do.
